You can help us translate and proof-read 5-10 books for primary school children in Maithili – each book, on average, has 10-15 pages / 15-30 sentences and can take approximately 2 hours to translate.

प्रतिभागी, शुरुआती पाठकों के लिए उपलब्ध ५-१० पुस्तकों का मैथिली अनुवाद तथा प्रूफ-रीडिंग में हाथ बटा सकते हैं। पुस्तक आम तौर पर दस से पंद्रह पन्ने, तथा १५-३० पंक्तियों की हैं। हर पुस्तक के अनुवाद में १-२ घंटे की अवधि लग सकती है।

Process to Volunteer:

  1. Please write to us at jamuna.aripanafoundation@gmail.com with your CV by Friday the 24th of August of 2018 / अपने बायोडाटा के साथ हमे jamuna.aripanafoundation@gmail.com पर ईमेल करे
  2. Selected volunteers can then choose 5-10 books to translate, from curated lists of books / चुने हुए प्रतिभागियों को अनुवाद किए जाने वाले 5-10 पुस्तकों को देखने और चुनने का मौका उपलब्ध होगा
  3. We will help all volunteers to familiarize themselves with translation tools and tips / प्रतिभागियों के साथ अनुवाद के कुच्छ टिप्स साझा किये जाएंगे
  4. Approximately 1-2 hours are required to translate a book. In order to translate 5-10 books, a total of 20 to 25 hours might be required over a span of two weeks or 14 days / अनुवाद में प्रति पुस्तक लगभग एक से दो घंटे की अवधि लग सकती है। दो हफ़्तों में ५-१० किताबों का अनुवाद करने के लिए, लगभग २०-२५ घंटे लग सकते है।
  5. Each volunteer will then proofread 5-10 books translated by a partner-volunteer / इसके उपरांत प्रतिभागी ५ – १० पुस्तकों के अनुवाद का प्रूफरीडिंग करेंगे ।
  6. Based on feedback from partner-volunteer, the original translators will finally make changes, as required, and submit the final copy / फीडबेक के अनुसार बदलाव करने के उपरान्त प्रतिभागी अंतिम प्रतिलिपि जमा करेंगे।
  7. The copies submitted by volunteers will be vetted by experts (such as Professors of Maithili, Sahitya Academy Award Winners etc.) and their feedback will be incorporated before publishing the books.

What We Offer:

  1. An honorarium of 100/- rupees per book for successful completion (which includes translation, proofreading and making changes if needed to the original translation based on feedback from a partner-volunteer)/ प्रतिभागियों कों १००/- रुपए प्रति पुस्तक मानदेय (अनुवाद, प्रूफ रीडिंग एवं फीडबेक के अनुसार बदलाव के लिय )
  2. Volunteers whose contributions are accepted will be duly acknowledged in the published books / स्वीकारे गए अनुवादकों का प्रकाशित पुस्तक में विधिवत उल्लेख किया जायेगा
  3. Certificate of Participation / सहभागिता का प्रमाणपत्र
  4. For volunteers based in and around Darbhanga/Mithila, a chance to attend workshop on children’s literature  & opportunity to interact with experts / जो प्रतिभागी दरभंगा/मिथिला से है, उन्हे बाल साहित्य पर आधारित कार्यशाला में निमंत्रण तथा विशेषज्ञों से बात चीत का मौका
  5. Opportunity to learn about early literacy and role of children’s literature in it, through readings, presentations and discussions. / साक्षरता में बाल साहित्य की भूमिका को समझने का अवसर

Please note: Volunteering for this project will imply your agreement to permanently transfer any copyright and/or moral rights accruing to you as a result of your translation of the books, to Aripana Foundation.

Follow Up:  A 2 days workshop on children’s literature to be held in Darbhanga, Bihar, in the last week of October. This workshop will be a mix of talks by experts on importance of children’s literature in early literacy, children’s literature in mother tongue (Maithili) and so on.  It will also be an opportunity for volunteers to meet each other and members of Aripana Foundation.  This workshop will also involve discussions on paving a way forward for continued collaborations.
